Want better results? Focus less on the problem

5 Ways to Focus on the Solution (Instead of the Problem)

Here’s why it matters:
The more we obsess over what’s wrong, the more stuck we feel.
However, as Dr. Milton Erickson taught, healing begins when we shift our focus toward what’s possible.

Here’s where most people go wrong:
They talk about the problem…
Then analyze the problem…
Then overthink the problem...
All while feeling worse.

If you don’t fix this, you risk:
Looping in old stories.
Staying in a stress cycle.
Missing the subtle signs your unconscious is ready to move forward.

Here’s what you should do instead…
Start looking for the smallest shift forward.
Because often, the solution isn’t some big breakthrough—it’s a new way of seeing.

5 Ways to Focus on the Solution

Way #1: Ask “What is working?”
Before investigating what’s wrong, explore what’s already in motion. This will reorient your brain toward resourcefulness.

Way #2: Get curious, not critical.
Replace “Why do I always do this?” with “What’s a small step I could do instead?”

Way #3: Tap into your body’s wisdom.
Drop into breath. Ground your feet. Ask, “What do I need right now?” Not “What do I need to fix?”

Way #4: Use solution-focused language.
Do: “I wonder how I’ll solve this…”
Or: “What would it feel like to be on the other side of this?”

Way #5: Imagine it’s already done.
Visualize success. See yourself calm, aligned, and clear. Let your unconscious mind work on getting you there.

Here’s an easy step you can take today to get started:
The next time you feel stuck in a loop, pause. Ask yourself:
“If I knew the next step, what would it be?”

Sometimes the shift starts there.

With you,
Debra

P.S. If you're ready to work with your unconscious mind instead of against it, schedule a call and let's explore what’s possible together.
